Download IF YOU CONFIRM: A MIL “ON” with one or more of the following DTC(s) stored: • P0442 / P0448 / P0455 / P0456 / P1446 AND • EVAP Vent Control S/V is stuck open or will not seal when operated/closed. ACTIONS: 1. Replace the EVAP Vent Control S/V. 2. Install the Filter Kit (refer to the Service Procedure in this bulletin). 3. Clear any DTCs stored in the ECM. SERVICE PROCEDURE Replace Vent Control Valve 1. Replace the EVAP Vent Control S/V. • Refer to section EC in the Service Manual for replacement information. Install Filter Kit 1. Download SERVICE Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve For PCV valve removal, refer to Routine Maintenance of this information. 1. Locate the PCV valve. With the engine running at idle, use pliers to pinch the PCV hose between the valve and the intake manifold. It should be possible to hear the spring loaded valve click shut. 2. If no click is heard, remove the valve from the engine but leave it connected to the intake manifold. A hissing sound should be heard and vacuum should be felt at the valve inlet. 3. If no vacuum is felt, remove the valve from the intake manifold hose. The engine should stall or almost stall. This will indicate a stuck valve or clogged hose. Check the breather hose for clogging or leaks and replace any defective parts. Download 1. Turn OFF the ignition. 2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information. 3. Disconnect the electrical connector. 4. Remove the EVAP vent valve bracket bolt. 5. Remove the EVAP vent valve from the bracket. 6. Disconnect the vent hose from the EVAP vent valve. 7. Remove the EVAP vent valve. Installation Procedure 1. Install the EVAP vent valve on bracket. 2. Connect the vent hose. Canister vent hose should be routed below the fuel tank fill and vent hoses. Notice Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Download DTC P0442 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Small Leak Detected Refer to Engine Controls Routing Diagram, EVAP Control System Overview . System Description This DTC tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a small leak. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor signal to determine the vacuum decay rate. At an appropriate time, the control module turns the EVAP canister purge valve ON and the EVAP vent valve ON. This allows the engine to draw a vacuum on the EVAP system. At a calibrated time, or vacuum level, the control module turns the EVAP canister purge valve OFF, sealing the system, and monitors the FTP sensor input in order to determine the EVAP system vacuum decay. If the control module detects a leak larger than a calibrated amount, this DTC sets. Download 1. Disconnect vacuum hose at speed control servo and install a vacuum gauge into the disconnected hose. 2. Start engine and observe gauge at idle. Vacuum gauge should read at least ten inches of mercury. 3. If vacuum is less than ten inches of mercury, determine source of leak. Check vacuum line to engine for leaks. Also check actual engine intake manifold vacuum. If manifold vacuum does not meet this requirement, check for poor engine performance and repair as necessary. 4. If vacuum line to engine is not leaking, check for leak at vacuum reservoir. To locate and gain access to reservoir, refer to Vacuum Reservoir REMOVAL / INSTALLATION . Relieve fuel pressure by loosening banjo bolt on top of fuel fi lter. Disconnect the fuel line at fuel rail. It is recommended that the washers be replaced. Next, disconnect the fuel injector harness holder and unbolt. Disconnect hoses from fuel pressure regulator (FPR). 2. Disconnect intake tubing/pipe from throttle body. Next, disconnect all hoses leading to intake manifold and throttle body, including throttle cable bracket on manifold. On throttle body, disconnect throttle positions sensor (TPS) and map sensor. 3. Locate the stock air intake inside the engine bay on the driver side of the vehicle towards the front of the engine bay. 2. Remove the intake hose from the stock intake using a flat head screw driver to loosen the clamp. 3. Remove the Stock Air Intake lid by unsnapping the two clamps on the side. 4. Remove Stock Air Filter. In these steps you will install the Rapid Flow Induction System. 1. This is a very easy install. Slide the new Rapid Flow Induction System into place.
