Download 1. Raise vehicle on hoist and remove right front wheel. Remove right inner splash panel. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove crankshaft vibration damper. 2. Remove generator drive belt idler pulley. Remove lower timing belt cover. 3. Remove right engine support assembly vertical bolts from bottom of frame rail (timing belt end of engine). 4. Lower vehicle. Remove upper timing belt cover. Place floor jack under vehicle to support weight of engine and transaxle assembly. Remove 3 bolts attaching engine mount assembly to engine bracket. 5. Move A/C drier aside. Remove coolant reservoir tank. Remove right engine mount. Remove 3 bolts attaching engine mount bracket to engine block. 6. Rotate crankshaft clockwise to align timing marks on camshafts and oil pump housing. See Fig. 1 . 7. On models equipped with hydraulic tensioner, remove hydraulic tensioner bolts and remove tensioner. Place hydraulic tensioner in vise, and SLOWLY compress tensioner plunger. Rotate the crankshaft using the J 42098 until the #1 cylinder is at 60 degrees before top dead center (BTDC). 3. Install the J 42069 Crankshaft Locking Tool. 4. Rotate the crankshaft in the engine rotational direction (clockwise) using the J 42098 until the #1 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC) and tighten the lever arm to the water pump pulley flange. Download 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect intake air temperature sensor connector from intake air duct. Disconnect the air intake tube from the throttle body. Disconnect the breather tube from the valve cover. Remove resonator from throttle body. Remove air filter housing. 2. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove right front wheel. Remove right front splash shield from wheelwell. Remove serpentine accessory drive belt. 3. Remove crankshaft pulley bolts. It is NOT necessary to remove crankshaft sprocket center bolt. Download Removal 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove upper fan shroud. Remove cooling fan assembly. Remove all accessory drive belts. 2. Remove fan pulley assembly. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt. Using Puller (J-8614-01) or equivalent, remove crankshaft pulley. Remove oil cooler hose from timing cover. Remove timing belt cover. Align all timing marks prior to belt removal. See Fig. 1 – Fig. 4 . Remove belt tensioner pusher and timing belt. Installation 1. Ensure all timing marks are aligned. Install belt over one pulley at a time starting at crankshaft sprocket and working counterclockwise. Belt should go over tensioner last. Rotate engine clockwise and position cylinder No. 1 on TDC of compression stroke. Ensure “O” mark on crankshaft pulley aligns with “O” mark on outer timing belt cover. 2.
