We take the inlet air from outside of the engine compartment where the inlet air is considerably cooler than the hot underhood air. The cooler inlet air temperature translates to more power during the combustion process because cool air is denser than warm air. Bomz Racing 01-05 Honda Civic EX Air Intake Installation Guide Removal of Factory Intake 1. Turn the ignition OFF and disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the air temperature sensor electrical connection. 3. Unclip the battery cable from the air inlet duct. 4. Loosen and remove the two bolts that secure the air inlet duct. 5. Remove the air inlet duct. 6. Loosen and remove the four bolts that secure the air intake resonator. 7. Loosen and remove the two bolts that secure the throttle body plenum. 8. Removal of Factory Intake 1. Turn the ignition OFF and disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery cable. 2. Loosen the clamp on the intake tube at the throttle body. 3. Loosen and remove the two bolts that secure the airbox. 4. Disconnect the air temperature sensor electrical connection. 5. Remove the crankcase vent tube from the stock intake tube. 6. Remove the complete air intake assembly. 7. Loosen and remove the bolt that secures the wiring harness bracket to it’s support bracket. Install of Intake 8. Slip the 2 3/4″ straight hose over the mass air flow sensor use two clamps and tighten the clamp on the mass air flow sensor. (See fig. 2) 3. Download Installation of AEM® intake system. a. When installing the intake system, do not completely tighten the hose clamps or mounting hardware until instructed to do so. b. Remove the transmission mount bracket nut closest to the front of the car. Install the supplied transmission bracket over the stud and replace the nut. Refer to the picture for correct orientation. Torque the transmission mount bracket nut to 54 N-m (5.5 kgf-m, 40 lbf-ft). (Fig. 9) c. Install the 2.50″ x 2″ hose on to the throttle body with two 2.50″ hose clamps. d. (write down preset channels for later use) •Disconnect Negative battery terminal. •Remove battery positive terminal, tie down clamp, battery and plastic tray. •Remove engine cover around throttle body on intake manifold (A). •Remove stock air box lid and filter. •Disconnect Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, remove upper intake hose and clamps (B). •Remove air box mounting bolts and nut.
