Download MIL Comes On With DTC P2195 or P2197 (Supersedes 04-038, dated August 10, 2004, to update the information marked with the black bars) SYMPTOM The MIL is on, and DTC P2195 (rear air fuel ratio sensor signal stuck lean) or P2197 (front air fuel ratio sensor signal stuck lean) is set. PROBABLE CAUSE The ECM/PCM software incorrectly interprets sensor inputs, causing the codes to set. REPAIR PROCEDURE NOTE: •Before you update an ECM/PCM, make sure the battery in the vehicle is fully charged. •To prevent ECM/PCM damage, do not operate anything electrical (audio system, brakes, A/C, power windows, moonroof, etc.) during the update. 1. If not already done, load the May 2004 or later i N CD onto the i N master terminal. Loading instructions are included with the CD. 2. Update the ECM/PCM software with the HIM. For updating instructions, refer to Programming the HIM and Updating an ECM/PCM With a Programmed HIM in Service Bulletin 01-023, Updating Control Units/Modules .… Read More

Has a code P1246. Tests/Procedures: 1. Disconnect the alternator and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Check the Violet (VT) (GENerator MONitor or GENMON) wire from the alternator to pin 20 of the PCM connector and the Red/Pink (RD/PK) (GENerator COMmand or GENCOM) wire from the alternator to pin 45 of the PCM for high resistance, an open, or a short to ground. Repair the wiring as needed. 2. If the wiring checks OK, reconnect the PCM and alternator. Start the engine and monitor the VT wire for a roughly 0-10v square wave signal. The signal will be around 40-50% normally with no loads on the system and minimal charging system output.… Read More

Download 1997 Buick Riviera | Aurora, Riviera (VIN G) Service Manual DTC P0341 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Performance. Circuit Description The camshaft position PCM input is produced by the ignition control module. The ICM produces the camshaft position PCM input by filtering the camshaft position (CMP) sensor pulses when the engine is running and CKP sync pulses are also being received. The PCM uses the camshaft position PCM input pulses to initiate sequential fuel injection and to determine crankshaft position for the misfire diagnostic. The PCM constantly monitors the number of pulses on the camshaft position PCM input circuit and compares the number of camshaft position PCM input pulses to the number of 18X reference pulses and the number of 3X reference pulses being received. If the PCM receives an incorrect number of pulses on the camshaft position PCM input circuit, DTC P0341 will set and the PCM will initiate injector sequence without the camshaft position PCM input with a one in six chance that injector sequence is correct.… Read More

Download There are five types of PATS implementations from Ford (A, B, C, D, E). Refer to Table 1 (page 11) to identify what type of PATS your vehicle is equipped with. PATS initialization is generally performed after programming. The A or D version of PATS does not store the key information in the PCM, therefore NO PATS KEY RELEARN IS REQUIRED after programming. The B or C versions of PATS store the key information within the PCM and MUST be transferred to the new PCM, or relearned on the vehicle after the new PCM is installed. The E version of PATS also stores the key information within the PCM, but CANNOT be transferred to the new PCM. This type MUST be relearned on the vehicle after the new PCM is installed. Note: If you are just updating the existing PCM calibration with an update calibration, you must select the MODULE REPROGRAMMING function (not Programmable Module Installation).… Read More

Download Before starting, be sure the vehicle has 91 or better octane fuel in it. DO NOT try to run the vehicle at full throttle at sea level altitude with a supercharger unless the fuel tank is filled with good 91- octane fuel. Failure to heed this warning can result in severe engine damage. Special Note: If you do not have a factory workshop manual, buy one now! It is good to have for any repairs now and in the future. The factory manual is available from Helm Publications, 800- 782-4356.
