Download 1. Drain the coolant. 2. Remove the fan and shroud. 3. Remove the drive belt . 4. Using the J 41240, secure the water pump pulley and remove the water pump pulley bolts. 5. Remove the J 41240. 6. Remove the water pump pulley. 7. Loosen and remove the water pump bolts. 8. Remove the water pump. 9. Clean and inspect the water pump. 10. Discard and replace the gasket. CIRCUIT TEST J – FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT (RELAY & INERTIA SWITCH) Diagnostic Aids When ignition switch is in the ON or START position, the PCM connects FUEL PUMP circuit (PCM terminal No. 22) to ground. The fuel pump relay is energized and electrical current flows to the fuel pump. Download When removing water pump assembly, be careful not to get coolant on drive belt. Water pump cannot be disassembled and should be replaced as a unit. After Installing water pump, connect hose and clamp securely, then check for leaks using radiator cap tester. 1.Drain coolant from drain plugs on radiator and both sides of cylinder block. 2.Remove drain plug on cylinder block. 3.Remove right side engine mounting, mounting bracket and nuts. 4.Remove drive belts and idler pulley bracket. 5.Remove chain tensioner cover and water pump cover. 6.Pushing timing chain tensioner sleeve, apply a stopper pin so it does not return. Download 1. Remove fuel tank filler cap. Listen for fuel pump operation noise at fuel tank filler. Fuel pump should operate for 2 seconds after ignition switch is turned on. If fuel pump operates as specified, fuel pump is okay. If fuel pump does not operate as specified, go to next step. 2. Turn ignition switch off. Remove rear seat or trunk floor to gain access to fuel pump connector. Disconnect fuel pump connector. Disconnect PGM-FI main relay connector. Remove front bumper to gain access to washer reservoir. ? Drill 9/16″ hole in desired bulkhead location. Note that the bulkhead can be positioned horizontally to direct the tube toward the pump. ? Remove one nut from and turn the remaining nut until it is at the very end of the bulkhead. ? Feed red tubing through the 9/16″ hole and out the top of the reservoir. ? Attach red tubing to the bulkhead on the side opposite the nut. ? Pull the tube through the bulkhead hole until the bulkhead seats against the inside of the reservoir. ?
