1993 Ford Escort FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT (RELAY & INERTIA SWITCH)

Download 1993 Ford Escort G – TESTS W/CODES – EEC-IV (1.9L)’ ’1993 ENGINE PERFORMANCE Ford Motor Co. – Self-Diagnostics – EEC-IV. CIRCUIT TEST J – FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT (RELAY & INERTIA SWITCH) Diagnostic Aids When ignition switch is in the ON or START position, the PCM connects FUEL PUMP circuit (PCM terminal No. 22) to ground. The fuel pump relay is energized and electrical current flows to the fuel pump. If PCM does not receive ignition PIP signal within 2 seconds, FUEL PUMP circuit is opened and fuel pump operation is terminated. Perform this test when instructed by QUICK TEST or CIRCUIT TEST AA. This test is only intended to diagnose: * Fuel pump relay. * Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch. * Wiring harness circuits (B+, VPWR, FUEL PUMP, GND and POWER-TO-PUMP). * Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM). VP44 Fuel Pump Can Not Reach Commanded Timing

Download Fault Code: 368 PID: P0216, S254 SPN: 1078 FMI: 8 LAMP: Yellow SRT: The VP44 fuel pump can not achieve the timing value being commanded by the engine electronic control module (ECM) due to an internal pump problem. Engine power derate. White smoke. Circuit Description The VP44 fuel pump uses an internal check to determine if the fuel injection pump can reach the commanded timing. Component Location The VP44 fuel pump circuit is internal to the VP44 fuel pump. Troubleshooting Steps STEPS SPECIFICATIONS STEP 1. Check the fault codes. STEP 1A . Check to see if the fault code is active at engine start-up. Fault Code 368 inactive STEP 2. Perform low pressure system checks. STEP 2A . Install the gauges and record inlet restriction findings. Restriction less than 152 mm Hg [6 in Hg] STEP 2B . Install the gauges and record fuel pressure findings. Fuel pressure at fuel filter inlet less than 34 kPa [5 psi] STEP 2C .… Read More

Fuel Pump Timing General Information

Download Pump timing that is off by only a few crankshaft degrees will cause: Poor performance – starting and power. 1. Excessive smoke. 2. Poor fuel economy. 3. Time Engine pump timing begins with the timing of the fuel injection pump drive gear to the camshaft gear. The first step is the location of TDC of the compression stroke for cylinder Number 1. Then, depending on the engine configuration, an alpha character on the injection pump drive gear will possibly need to be aligned with the mark on the camshaft gear. To verify that the fuel injection pump is timed correctly, first check the alignment marks on the pump flange and gear housing. NOTE: 1 mm of rotation past the timing mark will advance or retard (depending on direction of rotation) the pump timing by 1 degree. The Lucas CAV DPA, DPS, Delphi DP210, Stanadyne DB4, and the Bosch® VE fuel injection pumps all have a provision for locking the pump shaft at a position corresponding to top dead center for cylinder Number 1.… Read More
