CIRCUIT TEST J – FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT (RELAY & INERTIA SWITCH) Diagnostic Aids When ignition switch is in the ON or START position, the PCM connects FUEL PUMP circuit (PCM terminal No. 22) to ground. The fuel pump relay is energized and electrical current flows to the fuel pump. If PCM does not receive ignition PIP signal within 2 seconds, FUEL PUMP circuit is opened and fuel pump operation is terminated. Perform this test when instructed by QUICK TEST or CIRCUIT TEST AA. This test is only intended to diagnose: * Fuel pump relay. * Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch. * Wiring harness circuits (B+, VPWR, FUEL PUMP, GND and POWER-TO-PUMP). * Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Download Installation 1. Lower the tailgate and remove the access panel with a Torx T-30 driver. 2. Release the rod ends from the plastic clips of the scissor links by prying the yellow clasps up with a screw driver. 3. Remove the two 10 MM nuts holding the scissor bracket and remove it and remove the handle. 4. Pry the plastic dust cover from the handle and discard it. 5. Slide the LOCK BRACKET over the driver’s side stud on the handle and slide the EL over the passenger’s side stud of the handle. 6. Insert them into the tailgate from the outside. 7. Insert the scissor bracket into the tailgate from the inside. Tighten it down with a nut on the driver’s side. 8. Turn the lock counter clockwise with the slot in the horizontal position. There are several different types of fuel injection conversions available, however, this instruction will concentrate on the High Output, MASS-AIR setups found on the 92-93 Ford Mustangs. There are two main advantages to using this type of setup. The first advantage is that the computer in the MASS-AIR system will automatically compensate for any engine modifications that have been done prior to the installation of the fuel injection system. The second advantage is that fuel is sent to each cylinder individually only during the appropriate firing cycle, meaning that fuel is sent sequentially to each cylinder only when the spark plug is ready to fire. Download Draining 1. Bring the engine to normal operating temperature and turn the engine off. With the cooling system under pressure, inspect cooling system hoses and clamped hose connections for leaks, excessive deterioration or contact wear. Inspect radiator installation retention. Note any discrepancies and proceed. 2. WARNING: Never remove the pressure relief cap while the engine is operating or when the cooling system is hot. Failure to follow these instructions can result in damage to the cooling system or engine or personal injury. To avoid having scalding hot coolant or steam blow out of the degas bottle when removing the pressure relief cap, wait until the engine has cooled, then wrap a thick cloth around the pressure relief cap and turn it slowly. Download If reusing the head gasket: 1. Reference the supplied diagram for head bolt removal and tightening. Find the bolt corresponding to #1 on the diagram, and remove it. 2. Use a bottoming tap to clean the hole and remove all debris from the hole. Apply a small dab of engine oil to the stud threads that will go into the engine block and install the stud into the hole by hand and verify that the chamfered shoulder of the stud bottoms out in the block. If it doesn’t, re-tap the hole. Only tighten the stud finger tight. 3. Apply a conservative amount of Moly Assembly Lube to the exposed stud threads, as well as both sides of the washer, and torque to 90 ft-lb, loosen, torque to 90 ft-lb, loosen, torque to 130 ft-lb and stop. 4. Perform steps 1-3 for bolt #2 on the diagram. Continue in this order until the head studs labeled 1-10 on the torque sequence diagram have been torqued to 130 ft-lb.… Read More
